Family Papercut Commission

Here's the finished piece, together with some detail pictures and the activity I was asked to portray.  The design brief was to show all the family members doing their own special activity in an outdoor setting.  I wanted them all to occupy the same environment, so I hope I've achieved that effect.

I was really worried about designing and cutting this piece.  But once I'd figured out how to do it, I realised the more challenging the piece, the more you learn!

The full size is 35cm (w) x 29cm (h).

Family Papercut (cont'd)

I've just done another few hours cutting and now time for a break.  It's progressing nicely, I'm pretty pleased with how it's going.

Family Papercut (cont'd)

I thought I'd show you the beginnings of the papercut.  As always, I draw and cut from the reverse.  The thing that's going to take the time is all the little flowers and the trees.  The actual people aren't going to be too difficult.  My deadline is the end of next week - so I should be ok.

Family Papercut Commission

I've been commissioned to cut a rather complicated family grouping in a country sort of setting.  There are thirteen different family members (including a baby) and my client wants them to be shown doing the things they love best - and yes - that's a guy smoking on the top row!  At first I couldn't figure out how on earth I was going to do it, but then it dawned on me that individual little vignettes would work the best.  So, here is my drawing - and now I have to tackle the cutting!

Workshop

Here are some of the papercuttings from the workshop I held in my home studio last weekend.  The venue is working really well and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
