Illustrated Hagaddah

I've been asked to provide the illustrations for a new Hagaddah for the Movement for Reform Judaism in the UK.  A Hagaddah is the prayer book that's used during the Passover supper (also known as the Seder).  Think of the famous painting of The Last Supper - that's what that was all about. The illustrations will show some of the key parts of the Seder.  It's a really fun project and I'm loving doing these little scenes.  Really looking forward to illustrating the 10 Plagues!

This is something I've been working on for several months now.  It's for a fantastic jazz group, called the TG Collective.  Over the course of several weeks we talked about the concept and I did some initial drawings for them.  It is a layered papercut incorporating four different colours.  This is the final artwork for the front, and the back tracklistings is almost complete as well.  Their first album, Release the Penguins, is due out in April.  If you like Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli - this is for you!

I finally finished cutting the skull.  It was a pretty fiddly one as well - probably about 15 hours of cutting altogether.  Afterwards I scanned it into photoshop and played around with it for a while - that was a lot of fun!

So my temperamental blog seems to be letting me add images today!

This is my current project.  In case you haven't come across them before, these highly decorative skulls are called "sugar skulls".  I've had this idea for a while and finally got round to getting it drawn.

I'm planning on colouring it up in photoshop when it's all done.
